Not because it writes content faster.
And not because it replaces strategy or can replace a £10,000 a month agency.
It's because it allows you to build joined-up, cohesive systems instead of just throwing prompts at a chatbot.
A lot of people are seriously underestimating what this technology actually is.
The Problem
Why Prompting Isn't an SEO System
The mistake I keep seeing is people opening Claude, pasting in a page, and saying something like:
"Scan this content and give me EEAT recommendations."
That is not a system. That is just prompting.
And if the only thing guiding the output is a single prompt and Claude's general training data, the output is going to be shallow, generic, and often outdated.
The quality of the output depends on the quality of the inputs.
So if your only input is a vague prompt, you should not be surprised when you get vague, low-value recommendations back.
The Shift
How Claude Code Moves SEO From Prompting to Systems
Now this is where Claude Code becomes powerful. It allows you to move beyond prompting to start building workflows based on your specialised and hard-earned inputs.
It takes you beyond prompting and into designing an end-to-end brand visibility system.
So Claude Code:
- Lives locally on your machine
- Can interact with your files
- Can connect with your tools via MCP or APIs
- Most importantly, it can connect tools, data sources, workflows, and instructions
And that means you can feed Claude with three things:
- Workflows — Instructions on how to carry out a specific task (orchestration logic)
- Agents — The AI reasoning components that receive context, make decisions, and take actions
- Tools — Code written so that systems can interact with each other
What is known as a WAT framework. Workflows are the director. Agents are the actors. Tools are the props and equipment.
That all sounds a bit techy, you might have been scared off with the word 'code', but I'm not a developer and Claude has written 100% of the code.
The Biggest Advantage
The Problem With Fragmented SEO Tool Stacks
If you've worked in SEO for any length of time, your setup is probably fragmented. I've been in SEO 14 years and my tool list is getting bigger:
Reporting in one place. Technical somewhere else. Content optimisation somewhere else. Search Console, Analytics, keyword tracking, links, crawling tools, internal linking tools, Google Docs, Google Sheets.
Everything is siloed.
And that fragmentation creates weak and slow output if you're doing this manually. Because the insight is spread across too many places.
The Breakthrough
How to Connect Your Entire SEO Stack With MCP and APIs
What Claude Code allows you to do with the use of MCP servers and APIs, is connect that entire stack into one working system.
In some cases, it can even replace parts of the stack entirely.
So instead of isolated tools, you have one environment where your data, your instructions, your brand context, your workflows, and your tools can all speak to each other.
That is the real shift.
Example
Example: Building an AI-Assisted Content Optimisation Workflow
So, going back to the example above, if you want to optimise content, you don't ask Claude to "improve this page". You build a process.
First, you give the system context:
- Brand files
- Canonical statements
- Correct brand usage, dos and don'ts
- Writing style
- Expertise documents and people profiles
- White papers and reports
- Stored quotes
- Content templates and content inventory
Now it has memory that it'll check every time. No repeating. All functions act from this source of truth. All AI agents will work from the same instructions.
Then you build the workflow
- Load brand files
- Load content inventory
- Fetch the live page
- Extract entities
- Pull rankings
- Analyse Search Console
- Scrape search results
- Review competitors and missing topics
- Reference first-party data
- Add internal links
- Assign an author
- Reference a relevant white paper
- Output to a sheet
- Notify for review
That is completely different from prompting.
Then you layer in agents
- A performance agent
- An EEAT scoring agent
- A fact-checking agent
- An internal linking agent
- A content governance agent
- A template agent
- An SEO agent
Each one doing a defined job inside a system you designed and learning from each others outputs.
Tools are automatically used during the process
- SEO agent → Upload to Google Sheets
- SEO agent → Scrape SERPs with DataForSEO
- Research agent → Pull data from keyword tool
Now the output is not just "here are some suggestions". It is a full chain of actions.
What This Unlocks
Building Always-On SEO Automation Systems
Real value comes from connecting the dots end to end for a cohesive campaign driven from your source of truth. You can build things like:
Real-time content compliance
New page detected → sitemap scanned → content scraped → against brand canonical → issues flagged → links suggested → notification sent → performance tracked
LLM narrative tracking
Prompts tracked → responses scraped → narratives extracted → check against brand canonical → misinformation detected → sources analysed → report generated and emailed
Competitor link workflows
Links scraped → opportunities identified → contacts found → outreach drafted → approved → sent → logged
You're now architecting a living, breathing, always-on system built on your processes and MCP.
The Real Advantage
Custom SEO Tools You Can Build With Claude Code
You are no longer limited to tools.
All connected inside your own operating system.
The Misconception
Why AI Cannot Replace SEO Strategy and Human Judgment
This is the bit people get wrong. There is no such thing as one-click SEO.
You see those Instagram ads of someone 'putting SEO on autopilot and eating crisps'. It's bullshit.
- AI can follow your instructions. But it cannot decide what work matters.
- Tools can speed up delivery. They cannot replace judgment calls.
- Systems create leverage. They do not replace experience or human delivery.
The Analogy: Building a Skyscraper
Think about a skyscraper. Technology can automate calculations, modelling, and planning. But that does not mean anyone can build one.
You still need an experienced architect. Someone has to design the structure. Understand the constraints. Understand the political. Make the right decisions.
If you found out the skyscraper was designed by someone with no experience, you are not getting in the lift.
The Outcome
Better SEO Work, Not Less Work
Delivery becomes more systemised. Some parts become commoditised.
But the people who stay valuable are the ones who can:
The ones who can connect business goals, brand, search data, and human judgment.
The bit I care about most
If the system handles more of the repetitive work:
- You spend more time with clients.
- More time understanding their business.
- More time making better decisions.
- More time strengthening relationships.
That is the real upgrade and also where the irreplaceable value is.
The Future
The Future of SEO: Experienced Operators on Top of AI Systems
The future is not one universal AI workflow.
It is experienced operators sitting on top of an AI-assisted delivery system.
Living, cohesive brand visibility systems, built on their process. Their standards. Their way of thinking.
